family time.

I love my family and I love Fridays. Put them together and I am a big fan of family time on Fridays. For the last 4 years or so we’ve been intentional about doing something special on Friday nights. For the longest time it consisted of Chipotle and ice cream of some sort. This was when the girls were wee little and we just needed to get out of the house before we went insane. Chipotle is still our easy go to. Since moving to a new town 10 months ago we’ve enjoying figuring out a new Friday night routine by exploring our new town and restaurants. No matter what we do we all enjoy the break from the normal routine and spending time together. I’m hopeful this intentional special family time will always be something the kids look forward to, even when we aren’t the coolest people to hang out with anymore.

Tonight it’s dinner out some where (TBA) and a Redbox movie with popcorn and m&m’s. Sounds good to me!

What does your family do for family time?

We got our family pics taken on Tuesday. Here is a little sneak peak of our time. I can’t say it was the most fun and relaxing time…but what family picture session is, right? In light of that we were pleasantly surprised to actually see some decent photos! Yay for another successful family picture session. And now we don’t have to do it for another year!

our spot.

Does your family have a spot or room in your house where most everything happens? the central location of all that’s going on most happens _______ (fill in the blank).

Well we do.

It’s funny because when we first looked at our house this is the space that caused most confusion in our heads because we just didn’t know what we were going to do with it. Half of the room is our kitchen and the other half is a big open space with fireplace and doors going out to the patio. Would we put our TV in this room, our couch, kitchen table, leather chairs? I think we thought through just about every piece of furniture except our bed! Even on move-in day we switched it around a few times…left it…and then switched it back.

Then… we got it.

And now it’s by far my favorite room in the house. I love what we decided for the contents: leather chairs, buffet table, desk and book shelf aka “mom central”, my crate shelf and a nice soft rug. But more than the contents I love what the room has become because of what goes on here.

Reading time, dance parties (sadly far too often to Justin Bieber), star wars battles, lego building, baby everything, run way for style shows, computer time, school time, sing-a-longs, family devotions, quiet times and bedtime stories. This is the place where it all happens.

This room just makes me happy and already is filled with so many wonderful memories.

So where do you and your family most hang out?

What simple things are you enjoying right now?

an “aha” moment.

Bubble-licious. [Explore!]
last night we played outside as a family for over 2 hours. we played catch with the football with new neighbor friends. we took a bike ride. the girls played in the backyard in their little house. brian and i walked around our yard talking about what we would like to do in the future with our yard. the weather was warm, we had shorts on and we were having fun. and all of sudden it hit me as i stood back and watched the rest of my family. this is it! this is what God had in store for us. this is what we had prayed for. what i doubted would ever come at times. this is what he was holding out for. He knew exactly what He was going to give us in time and here it is.

right now.

of course if we would have known what was waiting for us it would have made the process we started oh so long ago that much easier. but we would have missed out on so much. like growing in our steadfastness and security in Him. His faithfulness. His promises. our patience and trust in Him.

so once again i’m overcome with thankfulness. reminded His timing is perfect. and challenged to keep believing in His goodness and great love for me.

a halloween story.

Happy Halloween from the Barelas!Once there was a Clone Trooper and 2 princesses who were on a mission to fill their buckets with as much candy as they could hold by using The Force and their magic princess powers…

and because they were unbelievably cute they had 2 bodyguards dressed up as their mom and dad to protect them along the way.

Cousins at HalloweenOn Halloween day their first stop was to meet up with a bunch of their cousin buddies to collect candy from the Auntie Nice Witch.

Trick or TreatingThen they went down to the village to charm more people with their cuteness, even the fireman! They collected bucket loads of candy. Their mission was a success! They went home tired and happy and full of sugar. The bodyguards were payed in candy as well.

The End.
