Going Live.

We’re in day #2 of our national conference in Ft. Collins (CSU) and it has been a whirlwind! Long days but filled with good stuff. At the beginning of the summer we were really excited to come to CSU thinking it would be a mini vacation for Brian and I because we are kidless and we are in a beautiful place with so much to do. But about 1/2 through the summer Brian was asked to take on the responsibility of heading up the social media aspect of the conference and to be a part of a seminar on social media. The idea was to incorporate Facebook, texting and Twittter into the conference as another avenue for people at the conference to interact while the meeting is going on. People can text, twitter or chat on facebook and send there questions, thoughts etc. to the Tweet Deck, which Brian is heading up and get an answer, engage in deeper conversation, make new relationships. So far it’s been a pretty big hit. It’s a lot of work to sort through this information from 5000+ people but he is not doing it alone and it’s very cool to see this whole new level of  interaction. I really like it because younger staff (which sadly I have realized I am no longer) are more apt to engage on this platform than on any other. So more of the audience is being engaged. It is exciting to see Brian be in his element like this. I’ve just been sticking by his side, learning a lot and enjoying being with him.

Outside of working at the conference I have enjoyed the actual conference itself. We had the privilege to hear from Tim Keller who is a pastor in NYC. He is a pretty big name right now and doing amazing things in the Christian and non Christian world. His talks were great, I couldn’t take notes fast enough! I will share more soon about what I learned. Another thing I always look forward to at CSU is the worship. There is nothing like worshiping with 5000 others. I love it.

Side note we are missing the kids but they are doing great! Everyone has been fine and they are being kept busy by Grandma and Pa. We just got off the phone with the Little Mister. He sounds older in just the 2 days we’ve been gone:) Although we are missing them we are taking full advantage of not having kids here and eating late dinners and hanging out with friends way past bed times!

Here are some pics from our time.

Here we are sitting at the Tweet Deck…”working”

Brian was a part of a seminar today all about social media and how it is so useful in ministry.

Part 3.

Well tomorrow morning Brian and I will be leaving for part 3 of our summer journey–Ft. Collins, CO for our staff conference that happens every other year. We will be gone for 10 days total…with out the kids. Pa & Grandma (my parents) will be taking on the task of watching the kids while we are gone. As I am sitting here writing this I have mixed emotions about leaving. Excited because it will be a nice break for us, good down time as parents, fun to plan activities with friends without having to worrying about bedtimes and bring enough snacks, diapers etc. and just good for Bri and I to have some alone time. BUT… I’m sad to leave my babies! The longest I’ve left them before is a weekend so this is quite longer. I know they are in great hands and they will be fine and soon enough I will be back filling up sippy cups and picking up toys. Still my heart is aching just a bit.

When we return we will be back for just 1 day and then all of will jump on the plane to head back home to Chico! So get ready Chicoians the countdown has started! You better get on that planning for are home coming party!

Here are a couple pics from today.

Ohio fun

Here are some pics of our time in Ohio so far. There have been lots of eating, resting, playing, family, eating, resting, playing and more family. We are having fun. Right now I am waiting to see a friend from college I haven’t see in 7 years! Crazy, I know. On Saturday we’re having a cookout with high school friends which will be fun I’m sure. Time is going fast as we fit all these things in!

Home.

(view from my parent back patio, one of my favorite places to sit)

The sweet little town of Richville will always be home to me. My parents have lived in the same house for the last 24 years. No matter how long it’s been since we’ve been gone, no matter how much life has changed around me, the moment I come back I feel at “home”. I love it. We’ve been here one day and I’ve done so many things I don’t get to do at our home in Chico that I am thankful for.

  • wake up in my old bed.
  • kiss my nephews
  • have lunch sitting next to my brother
  • run errands with my Dad
  • rub my sister-in-law’s belly with my soon niece or nephew
  • sit and visit my grandparents
  • watch my mom love on our kids
  • take the girls on tractor rides
  • play toys in the basement with the little mister
  • randomly run into my aunt at Wal Mart
  • listen to my dad play guitar
  • eat my favorite local pizza
  • watch fireflies with Bri

It’s been a really great day. I’m happy to have the next 9 days to hang out here with my family. I really love it and soak up every minute:)

Summer Milestones

We’ve been away from home for a month and a half now but I feel so much has changed with the kids! I don’t know maybe there’s something in the water or the salt in the air but our kiddos seem to be in fast forward here.  Here’s a mental list I’ve been keeping that I’m happy to share and happy to get out of my head where things don’t stay too long these days:)

  • The girls are saying so much more, putting 2 words together, repeating everything.
  • Little Mister’s imagination is growing, growing, growing! He always has a new, amazing adventure for his action heroes.
  • The girls are climbers! On couches, kitchen chairs and tables…pretty much anything they can get to.

  • Our extroverted son does have a limit. Sometimes he does need a break from people.

  • The girls have become OCD! They don’t like dirt, food etc. on them, or anything they are touching.
  • Little Mister can get on the potty all by himself and does need Elmo potty seat anymore.
  • The girls are getting pretty good at using silverwear. And even can eat cereal with milk for breakfast!
  • Miss T can distinguish between colors and is picky about which baby, milk cup or water bottle she has.
  • Miss K is our Miss Priss. Loves dress up, hats, purses and jewlery.

  • Not just a little man gets timeouts but also 2 little girls. Miss K will often put herself in timeout if she knows she did something with out me telling here or will walk herself over when told. She sits and wait patiently for me or come over and talk to her. Miss T on the other hand needs to be carried or dragged to timeout and she stomps the whole way. She will not stay in timeout unless I’m watching her the whole time and has a stinky, pouty look the whole time. What a difference!

  • Little Mister is growing in his confidence in who he is and what he does.
  • We have a big boy and 2 little girls!

Homeschooling from my iPhone

My title is a joke but only kind of. lol :) I recently downloaded several new FREE apps to my iphone that are great learning tools for the little mister and soon for the girls. Here is what the little mister is enjoying playing on my phone while learning. Let me know if you have any apps that you have found for your preschooler. I’d love to know!

  • Children’s Classics (great books to read aloud)
  • Make a Face
  • TT Shapes
  • Dress Chica
  • Jirbo Matching game
  • iWrite words (teaches tracing the alphapbet, singing abc’s) This is my favorite!

It’s Official

Two weeks ago I officially started training for my San Fran marathon in October. I’m using a pretty straight forward training plan from Hal Higdon. It’s running 4 days a week, cross training 1 day and 2 days rest. This is good for me because scheduling wise is not realistic for me to be running 6 days a week. So far I’ve been keeping up with my running whlie being in Ocean City. I get up early and get my run in before the humidity sets in.  The downside is there aren’t really any hills around here which I do need to train on considering I will be running plenty in the race. But that will just have to wait for now. It feels good to have a schedule and be working toward this big day.

15 1/2 weeks and counting!!!
