1. My super smart, social media savvy husband found a new app that he know I would love called Instagram. And yes I do love it. You can take pics with your phone and then put cool filters on the photo. It makes your photos look like you have a little bit of skills in taking pics when you really don’t! Yep, that’s me. Check this photo out that I took of Kaia and Theia. Love their expressions!

2. I found this great new blog this week called Inspired to Action. I’m enjoying it because it has done just as it title says…it has inspired me to take action as a wife and a mom. To step up to the plate and take seriously the great and awesome call I have to be Brian’s wife and Mason, Kaia and Theia’s mom. She has a free ebook called Maximize your Mornings. I downloaded it myself and taking some time to read through it. I would encourage you to do the same if you are wanting some encouragement in this area. Click on the button below. There are lots of other good things on the blog plus the author Kat has awesome taste in music…JJ Keller…just like me!

3. We had some very special visitors last week come and stay with us…Brian’s parents, Grandma Marilyn and Grandpa! We got to have them here for a whole week and it was just wonderful. I mean besides the fact that there were FOUR grandparents eager to take care of 3 beautiful kids (awesome!) we had so much fun showing them around, bringing them into our life in Ohio. They joined us for story time and bible study, they visited Amish country, went to some local restaurants and most of all just enjoyed being together. Oh, how we miss them! We are so thankful for the special time we had. Pictures are to come

4. My dad had complete shoulder replacement surgery on Monday. It’s a pretty big deal of a surgery but I am happy to say he is doing awesome and on the road to recovery like a champ. It’s been interesting to watch the different reactions of each of the kids towards “Pa”. Mason is the big helper, wanting to do anything and everything to help and asking every question to better understand what exactly happened. Kaia is also helpful but in such a caring way. She’ll pat my dad’s arm, bring him water and say encouraging words when he is doing his exercises. Theia is also concerned but shows it from a distance. She observes from afar, asks me questions but not Pa, gives me kisses to give Pa but has yet to touch him. This experience has shown me that each of our kids has caring heart for others and desires to help it just comes out differently. And that is ok.

5. It’s hard to believe but the girls are turning 3 next week! Oh my goodness 3 years ago I was sitting on the couch watching the clock…waiting…waiting…waiting. And then when it happened we somehow were still completely shocked! I’m excited to celebrate my big girls. A princess castle is all they have been talking about since they went to their friends birthday party last March. So that will be one thing. I’m also thinking about these cutie shoes from Target…shopping for my girls is too fun!

thankful thursday.

photo.JPG

trying something new out. thankful thursdays.

simply sharing one or two or several things i am thankful for.

hoping this action will create in me a more grateful heart throughout my days.

today…

i am thankful for the peaceful day i had at the park with my kids on this beautiful fall day.

we laughed. we played. we sang. i held them tight. gave them kisses. watched them climb higher, jump further and run faster.

i want to remember this day.

so good!

photo.JPGthis is what we call productivity at its finest my friends.

this is simply just a pile of envelopes and packages ready to be mailed

but

it has also been on my mind for weeks upon weeks to get some of these in the mail

and life just keeps happening and i don’t get to the post office.

today…in a rare moment the house was quiet and i had all that i needed to get this task done

and now

it is

DONE!!! (minus the part where i actually get to the P.O, that could be another few weeks!)

*** no real point to this post (i was trying to think one, couldn’t come up with anything)

just wanted to share that even the most simple tasks can take a lot of effort and time

and when it actually gets done it’s a great feeling!

anyone else out there overly excited about getting simple tasks done?!?

simply thankful.

i am thankful for this monday night yummy treat…

i am also thankful for…
a thoughtful husband.
laughing with my brother.
a free carmel latte from barista patrick.
answers to prayers.
doctors who know what they are doing.
impromptu family football game.

it was a good day.

Still laughing.

I’m thankful for my kids. The way they see life, the things they say. They keep me laughing when I need it most.

Here are some recent “Barela-isms”

Theia: “Mom I want a small corn dog?” Translation: I want a piece of candy corn.

Mason: “Theia you are studying and I can’t understand you.” Translation: “Theia you are stuttering…”

Brian said “I’m cold.” Kaia said “I’m Kaia nice to meet you.”

Mason had an accident the other night in his bed. I said “Mase, did you know you were peeing?” “Mom, of course I didn’t! I was sleeping!”

We were in the car, Kaia and Theia were sitting next to each other in their car seats. Theia said something, Kaia asked her to repeat it but Theia would not. Kaia kept asking what? what? Theia finally replied that she couldn’t hear her. So Kaia replies in a very loud voice “Hey Theia, what did you say?”

Mason took a nap one afternoon, which never happens anymore. When he woke up, he couldn’t believe he slept. “Mom, I didn’t know myself went to sleep!”

Separated?

photo.JPG
I probably should have done this a long time ago but I don’t like to “should” myself so I wont say that:) What I started doing recently is separating the girls for their rest/nap times. Formerly naps were not happening at all and in the process of “resting” they were destroying their room and turning into wild, crazy and overtired girls. Day after day you can only imagine what this turned into…not good. So a couple weeks ago I put one in one room and another in another room. They only fought me on the first day. Now each day they ask me “Are we separated today?” The answer is yes! and they go off to their respective rooms. The result is: naps are occasionally happening and the girls get a break from one another which I think they need. It’s important to develop their own personalities and imaginations, dislikes and likes. I love the special bond they have. To watch and listen to them play together is such a joy. But it’s always good to have a break from your best friend…even when it’s your twin sister.

Your Hands.

I let my heart go away

Your Hands by JJ Heller.

I have unanswered prayers
I have trouble I wish wasn’t there
And I have asked a thousand ways
That You would take my pain away
That You would take my pain away

I am trying to understand
How to walk this weary land
Make straight the paths that crookedly lie
Oh Lord, before these feet of mine
Oh Lord, before these feet of mine

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave Your hands

When You walked upon the Earth
You healed the broken, lost, and hurt
I know You hate to see me cry
One day You will set all things right
Yea, one day You will set all things right

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave Your hands

Your hands
Your hands that shape the world
Are holding me, they hold me still
Your hands that shape the world
Are holding me, they hold me still

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave You when…

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave…
I never leave Your hands

As I’ve mentioned before there have been a lot changes in our lives in the last 4 months. We took a leap of faith with confidence knowing that He had called us to go. But I’d be lying if I said it has been easy. Sure there has been much to enjoy in our time of transition and there is much to be thankful for but there are many times when I long for “my old life”. It wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t always easy but it was comfortable and it was known and I really, really liked it! Now, I feel as if my world has been shaken up quite a bit. I’m ready for the shaking to subside… but we are still rocking and rolling over here. In the midst of the roller coaster ride we find ourselves in I am so grateful for the calming truth JJ Heller sings about in the song Your Hands.  Even when my world is spinning,  heaven stands. I am in His hands, the hands of the Creator and I will never leave. This is what I hold on to when I can’t figure out anything else. And slowly…very slowly…I’ve come to realize this is exactly where He wants me.

1.The girls got the cutest owl shirts from Target last week. Grandma thought her granddaughters needed some warmer clothes. Go for it Grandma, no arguing here! Look at my big girls sportin’ their shirts! I love the colors of the shirt and the owl print. I know some Chico girls that would be pretty fond of this shirt as well:) If only it came in a bigger size!

2. A wonderful friend of mine sent this CD to us this week. She ordered one for her family and unknown to her when you order one you get a free one to share with a friend. Well lucky me, because we are all enjoying the songs. It is Bible verses in songs. And it’s not cheesy, 80’s music that I have found before but really good music. So know we are rockin’ out to bible songs and memorizing them too!

3. Brian and I are fans of the band Arcade Fire. Their new album, The Suburbs just came out and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for some good music to have on in the background at home or in the car The Suburbs by Arcade Fire is a good choice.

4. I just learned a friend of mine from Ohio University has her own custom bakery called The Pink Apron (love the name) and her work is adorable! I love her creativity and detail. I have not had an opportunity to eat these yummy treats but I’m guessing they are as tasty as they are cute. I am thinking of ordering something for 2 little girls who are turning 3 in a couple weeks. Here is her facebook page with tons of pictures and she ships too!

5. Brian and his blogference team produced a podcast this week that you can find on iTunes. Check it out. I am so proud of Brian and the work he is doing on the Blogference . He is always one step ahead of the game and thinking in unique ways that subtly attracts attetnion. I like that.
