finders keepers.

did a little “good willing” ( just made up my own word there) on saturday. the first saturday of the month everything is 50% off. it’s a good day to go. i went looking for a dresser to re-d0 for mase but no such luck. i did find some other goodies.

these cute little yellow cups that add some more color to my crate shelf. i heart these:)

i found a ceramic candle stick and silver charger. i did a little painting and gluing and made another cake stand or whatever you want to use it for. right now it is a part of my one and only easter decoration. it holds my cute little eggs i made out of yarn, glue and balloons. what sort of easter/spring decorations do you have?

i also found some old school cafeteria trays that the kids are LOVING! brings back great memories of drinking chocolate milk out of the little cartons:)

and that my friends are the treasures i found this weekend!

5 on friday

1. we constantly have music playing in our home. anything from worship, to hip hop to indie rock to justin bieber (mason’s constant request) you’ll will hear. our desktop computer is in a central location so it is easy to have pandora playing all the time. but i quickly reach the 40 hours a month limit. we recently tried out rdio.com for something different and loved it. it is the same idea as pandora but you can listen to whole albums at a time. basically any song is at your finger tips. check it out. we’ve been having fun rocking out to some sweet 80-90’s music. good memories:)

2. i busted out the resurrection eggs this week. getting the kids thinking about easter and what this celebration is really all about. not the easter bunny and candy that they are seeing everywhere, although this is still fun to do. i was happily surprised how much mason remembered of the easter story. as i was reading the story i was reminded that it just isn’t the easter story but a story of resurrection that we are invited to live out everyday. how lovely. i love sharing this story with the kids using the resurrection eggs.

3. we go through snacks like water. 3 kids and often 3 snacks a day makes for ALOT of snacks. and prepackaged snacks aren’t cheap. it kinda drives me crazy that a such a large chunk of our grocery budget goes to snacks that really don’t fill our kids up, but often what they eat because they are bored. so i’ve been on a mission to come up with an alternative snack plan. i haven’t fully switched over yet but we are getting close to ridding our home of goldfish etc. i’m sure there will be a lot of crying and flailing of arms but i’m prepared. so what will i do instead? well one thing i found are these super easy and good granola bars. these are the best i’ve found that everyone likes. here’s a picture, terrible i know but you get the idea. i always do better seeing what something is supposed to look like.

4 T salted butter

1/2 c brown sugar

1/4 c honey

2 c granola

1 c rice cereal (krispies)

1/2  c raisins (or what ever dried fruit you want)

1/2 c of the long skinny pretzels broken up a bit

1/2 c choc. chips

***combine sugar, honey and butter. bring to boil over med-high heat, then simmer till sugar dissolves (about 2 min). remove from heat. add the dry ingredients to saucepan and coat evenly. Transfer to a greased dish ( i used an 8×8 because i wanted them thicker). Gently press choc. chip into top. Put in fridge for 15 min. Then cut into granola bar shapes.

*** anything can be added to they dry to change up the recipe, almonds, flax seed, wheat germ etc.

4. i made this picture a couple weeks ago using one of my favorite quotes from the jesus story book bible. i painted it blue first and stenciled in the doily on the bottom corner. then i painted on the quote. quick and simple. it hangs above our “time out” chair. coincidental? i think not.

5. we’ve quickly learned that spring break is a BIG thing around here. everyone leaves and goes else where. seriously it is like the exodus around here. yeah, we didn’t get the memo. maybe next year? looking forward to next week of hopefully spring like weather to match spring break.

thankful thursday.

tea party collage
last night brian surprised mason and took him to a pacers game. this was mason’s first time to an nba game and really special for brian, who loves basketball to take his son. my little man looked all grown up walking out of the house for his “boys only” night. the girls and i were happy to see them go because we had plans of our own. although the girls made daddy promise to take them on a special date asap!

while the boys were out of the house for the night we enjoyed a very girlie tea party. we got all dressed up. fancy dresses, necklaces, tiaras and heels.  yes i put on the fanciest dress i own and heels. hair stayed in the usual messy bun and no make-up, couldn’t get too crazy:) we took pictures of each other posing oh so pretty. we enjoyed a meal of fancy little sandwiches, mac-n-cheese, pink mild and yummy cupcakes with pink icing and sprinkles. we talked about how ladies act at that the table, using their manners, a napkin on your lap. then theia said, “mom may i be excused, i have to poop.” well then, go right ahead…i just laughed. and soon after kaia was right behind her doing the same thing. after we finished our meal the girls danced for me and giggled and talked and talked. i just sat there smiled and felt so full of love and thankfulness for these sweet girls God has given us. they brighten my day everyday. they challenge me to be a better woman of Christ because i know they watch every move i make and listen to me oh so carefully. it brings me such joy to be there momma!

thank you girls for joining me in an unforgettable tea party!

ok i get it!

Frogs!
has it ever happened to you when you have the same message/theme repeated in your life in a short amount of time? and you think to yourself “ok, i get it!”

well loud and clear i hear the message s  l  o  w down.

in the last 48 hours i’ve come across 2 articles, had a conversation with brian and then my quiet time this morning was about savoring the moments we are given. i confess i can be a little high strung. i like to be on the move, keep checking things off my to do list that i continuously add to, squeeze as much in a day as i possibly can till i crash and burn. to me the best days are the most productive days and that often means hurry from one thing to the next. sure i get a lot done and i feel good about myself but then i look back and see the path i’ve paved. . . at times not so pretty.  i look at my family and sometimes they get the worst of my “go go go!” attitude resulting in impatience, frustration, lack of joy, resentment and just plain tiredness (yuck!). i can struggle to let the insignificant go and focus on the most important things, to enjoy the process, to just be. unfortunately this is not the first time i’ve heard this lesson but more like i hear it all the time, i’m just choosing to act on it this time. because i don’t want my kids to live a life of hurry. i can see how it causes unnecessary confusion and lack of unity in our family. i don’t want to be a “whirlwind” of a wife/mom that gets a lot done but isn’t really there and leaves my family scrambling to keep up with me. my desire and prayer is to be a wife/mom who is fully present, will stop when needed and approachable at all times.

so hear i am completely humbled once again by how He so sweetly yet consistently speaks into my life. calling me to slow down, sit more, listen more, do less, be ok with not having my check list all checked off, enjoy the moments He gives me.  to trust Him that His grace is sufficient for me, for His power is made perfect in my weaknesses.

spring is sprung.

so the date on the calendar may say that spring is here even if the weather doesn’t feel like it. at least in the state of indiana (still weird to say i live in indiana). we had a couple of teaser days of warmth and now back to the bitter cold. i’m over it. anyways… my heart is still set on spring and i want to decorate for it! yep, it all comes back to decorating. i’ve found a couple things that i think will be taking up my time in the next couple weeks. what about you? how do you decorate for spring? anything to share? i’m all ears!

5 on friday

Lucky Number 5
simple quick rendition of 5 on friday…

1. i’m running in a 1/2 marathon tomorrow! hoping for weather that is semi-decent.

2. my parents are visiting this weekend. very fun to have them both here. and i’ve really missed my dad:)

3. within 24 hours we went from wearing shorts and tshirt outside to watching it snow:( spring where are you?!?

4. my husband has been in and out of town and going non-stop for the last 2 weeks. as of tomorrow afternoon the pace will slow down. so excited to see this man a little more!

5. all in one day we had new friends over for a playdate, neighbor kids over to play and friends from cali over for dessert. i loved sharing our new home with others. my heart is happy!

an “aha” moment.

Bubble-licious. [Explore!]
last night we played outside as a family for over 2 hours. we played catch with the football with new neighbor friends. we took a bike ride. the girls played in the backyard in their little house. brian and i walked around our yard talking about what we would like to do in the future with our yard. the weather was warm, we had shorts on and we were having fun. and all of sudden it hit me as i stood back and watched the rest of my family. this is it! this is what God had in store for us. this is what we had prayed for. what i doubted would ever come at times. this is what he was holding out for. He knew exactly what He was going to give us in time and here it is.

right now.

of course if we would have known what was waiting for us it would have made the process we started oh so long ago that much easier. but we would have missed out on so much. like growing in our steadfastness and security in Him. His faithfulness. His promises. our patience and trust in Him.

so once again i’m overcome with thankfulness. reminded His timing is perfect. and challenged to keep believing in His goodness and great love for me.
