outside decor.

Since the weather has finally changed and we have immediately went from turning the heat off to turning the air on (crazy) we are spending more time out on our back patio/porch. We still aren’t sure what we are calling this area yet. Anyways, besides the point. We are enjoying it more. We have spent some time planting flowers and herbs, cleaning it up, re-arranging furniture, still looking for some chairs for the table I re-did but all in all we are making the space ours. I was happy to see that the previous owners already had screws in place to hang things on the brick wall. Thank you very much! Last weekend I did a little garage sale hunting. Out of 6 garage sales I came home with a 10 cent frame. Definitely not worth the gas money I spent driving all over but whatever. Now I just needed something to put in this frame. Using an idea I found through Pinterest and a little of my own creativity and supplies I had in my craft bins I came up with this fun and funky little wreath. I started with a plain styrofoam wreath. Wrapped it in fabric and hot glued it to secure. I made several different sizes and colors of fabric rosettes and hot glued those puppies on wherever. I cut out some little leaves to add. I cut off some lace trim from an old hankie and cut some little triangles to make the cute little bunting across the middle. And there it is. It hangs nicely on our back patio. And don’t worry it hangs straight although the picture makes it look totally crooked.

What outdoor decorations do you have?

5 on friday.

1. I’m in the process of creating some patio furniture for us. My dad gave me an old library table that I painted grey and weather proofed. Now I’m hoping to hit up some garage sales for some mismatched wooden chairs that I want to paint in citrus colors. Got this fun color combo from my new love Pinterest. Good for so many things! Anyway, that has been my project of week. And someday soon when the rain stops and the sun shines again we will be able to actually use this furniture. That is of course if we haven’t built an ark and floated away by then.

2. I was making some more of the the shirt pom poms last night for the girls room. The girl were all up in my business “helping”me and I got the idea to make some accessories for them out of the shirts. We made necklaces and headbands out of some scraps I cut. They LOVED them and are wearing proudly. Simple, fun idea for your girlies if you have some old tshirts or fabric.

3. We have a fun weekend ahead of us. My brother and sister in law and their 3 kiddos are coming to stay! We are so excited to have them. We are looking forward to lots of laughs, craziness with 6 kids, food, hopefully swimming, bonfire and good old fashioned family time! Can’t wait!

4. I just ordered volume 6 of the Seeds Family Worship. This one is Seeds of Character, gotta be good! We have volume 1 memorized and I’m happy to say I hear these wonderful little songs of truth being sung through out the house at times. This has been the best way for our family to learn and enjoy scripture. If you don’t know about them already please check them out. Awesome!

5. Mason recently got a nerf gun. It’s something he has been wanting and waiting patiently for since Christmas. This past weekend we surprised him and took him to Target and got him one. His smile and thankful heart were priceless. This is what I try and hold on to when I am being shot at multiple time throughout the day. In hopes of decreasing the likelihood of me being the target I made several targets and put them in various places around the house. Can’t really say it helped me. Really it just increased the “fun factor” in the decorations of our house. More importantly he’s have a blast with his new toy. And I’m seriously considering getting my own nerf gun. The best offense is good defense, right?

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Relax and Enjoy. Do something “summery” and fun!

a song i need to hear.

this is my new song. i play it multiple times a day. hoping to ingrain these truths into my head and heart. oh how i’ve needed this truth more and more lately. lies circling my attempts in making new friends, my attempts at teaching my children obedience and self control when i lack the same things. lies telling me if i just keep running, keep going, keep doing “things” it will be ok. my insecurities as a woman, wife and mom can come out so quickly and consume me. get the best of me. the part of me that i want to share with others. He is really all that matters. when i can’t get anything else right, if i have my eyes set on Him the battle is won. He’s more than enough to handle all my “stuff” and more than enough for whatever i need. sometimes i just need some gentle reminders. here are some of the truths i hang on to through out the day when i’m fighting the good fight with faith.

you are good. you are good. when there’s nothing good in me.

you are light. you are light when the darkness closes in.

you are more. you are more. your are LORD.

you are GOD you are GOD. of all else i’m letting go.

the riches of your love will always be enough.

nothing compares to your embrace.

my heart will sing no other name.

hope you enjoy the song. maybe it is a song you need to hear too. let’s sing it together.

in this time…

My dress pic.

each morning the house is quiet just for a bit before the craziness starts.

in the quietness of the mornings i prepare myself for what is to come for our day.

i prepare my heart and mind for the seen and unseen things of the day.

i pray over the verse that hangs above my desk which i cling to as a wife and mommy.

Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12

i prepare for the breakfast that will soon be served to 3 VERY hungry little mouths.

get the much needed coffee ready for 2 big people.

think ahead to what dinner will be.

catch up on email, facebook etc. and other things to keep us running smoothly.

go over our day. what are we doing? what needs to get done? what do we get to do?

it’s in this time i set my mind on what’s most important. gain strength and wisdom for what is to come to from the only One who really knows.

this quiet time in the early morning hours is a sacred time to me.

and now my friends it is over…

i hear pitter patter of feet coming down the hallway.

off i go….to another new day!

may the peace of Christ rule in our hearts today! Colossians 3:15

our spot.

Does your family have a spot or room in your house where most everything happens? the central location of all that’s going on most happens _______ (fill in the blank).

Well we do.

It’s funny because when we first looked at our house this is the space that caused most confusion in our heads because we just didn’t know what we were going to do with it. Half of the room is our kitchen and the other half is a big open space with fireplace and doors going out to the patio. Would we put our TV in this room, our couch, kitchen table, leather chairs? I think we thought through just about every piece of furniture except our bed! Even on move-in day we switched it around a few times…left it…and then switched it back.

Then… we got it.

And now it’s by far my favorite room in the house. I love what we decided for the contents: leather chairs, buffet table, desk and book shelf aka “mom central”, my crate shelf and a nice soft rug. But more than the contents I love what the room has become because of what goes on here.

Reading time, dance parties (sadly far too often to Justin Bieber), star wars battles, lego building, baby everything, run way for style shows, computer time, school time, sing-a-longs, family devotions, quiet times and bedtime stories. This is the place where it all happens.

This room just makes me happy and already is filled with so many wonderful memories.

So where do you and your family most hang out?

1. A while ago I recovered a lamp using fabric a dear friend brought back from Tokyo. I love the fabric and the friend who gave it to me. So even if my recovering job isn’t the greatest (which it’s not) the lamp has a new special meaning to me. I got the idea from Design Sponge using the tutorial below. If you have a lamp that needs a new look try this out. I did it in about an hour. Have fun!

2. Just last week I was thinking if I would like to get our kids a play set for the back yard. I hadn’t come to a conclusion yet. And then low and behold what do our neighbors start building in their backyard over the weekend? A play set! A really, really nice play set with all that a child’s heart could want! And better yet this play set came with an open invitation to our kids to play on it any time. Score! We have a playhouse and a couple other things that we have been sharing with them so I feel like we are being neighborly as well. Will we be getting a play set of our own? I think not my friends.

3. Miss T- this girl has become my little shadow. She does everything with me. And I mean everything. Said with slight sarcasm:) Most times I enjoy it. She helps me cook, bake, craft, clean, laundry, iron, water plants, get ready for the day, picks out my clothes and jewelry. She’s learning a lot and one day will be a wonderful wife and mommy which one day I will love to see. Right now I’m enjoying her as my little helper and soaking in each moment. For I know, time goes too quickly and someday soon I may not be so cool to hang out with:)

4. Want an easy craft/decorating idea? Take a favorite piece of fabric and frame it. Before I left Ohio I had the blessing of collecting some goodies from my grandparents cleaning out their basement. One thing my grandma gave me were a bunch of my great grandmas hankies. Not old, ratty hankies but really cute design hankies. I picked one of my faves and framed it up!

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

5. I’ve recently become a convert of making my own laundry soap. One step closer to becoming Amish? Well, maybe. But I really like the results. It’s cheap, easy, all natural which is great for the girls super sensitive skin and it even works! I use the following recipe which I got from my friend Jenn who got it from soule mama. So for now at least we are sticking to this plan. But no worries, still drive around our gas guzzling Tahoe around. No horse and buggy here:)

Homemade Laundry Powder

2 cups (finely) grated castile soap*
1 cup borax
1 cup baking soda
